Impact of the H-1B Ready to Work Program
For nearly three decades, defense manufacturing firm Bright Lights USA has supplied mechanical components for the military of the United States and allied nations. Led by founding CEO Daniel Farber, Bright Lights USA has also been involved in government programs that develop the American workforce.
Bright Lights USA recently participated in an event hosted by the H-1B Ready to Work program, which allocated funding to enable people who are chronically unemployed to gain the skills they need to obtain employment in high-demand fields. Since 2014, the Department of Labor has awarded workforce development programs more than $170 million annually in multiyear grants to meet the program’s objectives.
From January to March 2018, nearly 20,000 people participated in a Ready to Work-funded program. The majority of these participants had been unemployed for more than six months. Approximately 40 percent had found work by the end of March.

An Introduction to the H-1B Ready to Work Grants Community
For nearly three decades, Barrington, New Jersey-based Bright Lights USA, Inc. has manufactured and distributed high quality defense spare parts. Bright Lights USA president and chief executive officer Daniel Farber represented the state of New Jersey before the United States Department of Labor as part of the H-1B Ready to Work grant program, a federal program designed to help long-term unemployed workers receive training and support to help them return to the workforce.
The online H-1B Ready to Work Grants Community, developed with the help of the Employment and Training Administration (ETA), is an invaluable online resource for grant recipients. The community has been designed to assist grantees in learning the best approaches to getting the most out of a ready to work (RTW) grant. Popular topics of conversation include how to find relevant job training and strategies for developing and moving forward with one’s career path.
A few of the most popular resources available through the H-1B Ready to Work grants community include access to the annual RTW Grantee Webinar series and the H-1B Ready to Work Performance Reporting Handbook, which consists of quarterly program progress reports from grantees all around the country. The Benefits of the H1B Visa
Based in Barrington, New Jersey, Bright Lights USA is a longtime manufacturer and distributor of defense components for the United States military. Committed to making sure his company and others are able to recruit top talent worldwide, Bright Lights USA CEO Daniel Farber recently delivered an address about the benefits of the H1B Visa program at a gathering in Washington, DC.
In relation to other work visa programs, the H1B is the one most commonly selected by foreign individuals looking to gain employment in the United States. One of the major reasons it has been so popular over the years is its easier eligibility requirements as compared to other visa programs. H1B applicants need only have a bachelor’s degree and a relevant offer of employment from a company in the United States to qualify, while other visa programs require graduate-level education and only apply to managerial roles.
The H1B is also a flexible visa that can be taken from one job to another while it is in effect. These visas are granted in three-year increments and are typically easy to extend. It’s also open to individuals from any country. With job growth in STEM fields such as computer engineering rapidly outpacing the rate of talent produced within the US, the H1B visa remains one of the most powerful tools for companies looking to maximize their potential.

What Is the H-1B Ready to Work Program?
Founded in 1990, Bright Lights USA manufactures mechanical and electro-mechanical spare parts for use in the military. Under the direction of president and CEO Daniel Farber, Bright Lights USA participates in the H1-B Ready to Work program.
The US Department of Labor’s H-1B Ready to Work program provides funding for counseling, training, and support services to prepare long-term unemployed American workers for careers in middle- and high-skilled jobs. Financing for Ready to Work grants comes from fees paid by employers who participate in the H-1B nonimmigrant visa program, which brings foreign workers into the United States to fill roles in specialty occupations.
The Department of Labor launched the Ready to Work program in 2014 with authorization from the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act. The program's ultimate goal is to reduce the country’s need for foreign workers by equipping long-term unemployed Americans with the skills required in industries served by H-1B visa recipients. In October 2014, the Department of Labor announced nearly $170 million in Ready to Work grants distributed to organizations in 20 US states and Puerto Rico.
